PAINTED DUCKS & FRIENDS! For generations, near an active volcano in Southeast Asia, villagers cleared bamboo fields and the roots were tossed into a pile and burned. Today's villagers prevent air pollution and find employment by reclaiming the roots to create these beautiful hand carved painted ducks.
It takes 6 weeks for the kiln drying of each piece of handcarved wood. Each root, with it's unique shape, twists and curves, determines the personality or "attitude" of the creature. A head and feet made from recycled teak are then attached to the body before a specialized acrylic-based paint is applied.
Our Painted Ducks are a wonderful addition to any home or garden. Each duck is individually handcrafted and named using the natural shape of the bamboo root so no two are exactly alike. Available in assorted shapes and colors, they can live inside or out.
And NOW INTRODUCING more Painted Critters: Chickens, Sheep, Penguins, Crows, Herons, Swans and the wonderfully funky "ODDKINS"! |

AXIS OF HOPE PRAYER WHEELS Artist Chris Moench of AXIS OF HOPE believes that the ancient concept of prayer wheels offer a tactile and visual meditation because as you touch the wheel and see it turn the images tell a story. Also, filled with prayers, these simple but exquisite vessels can turn people to their inner core, reminding them of what is most important. Chris' modern day prayer wheels explore the theme of hope. Each wheel tells a story through images inscribed or carved into the clay. As the wheel turns on its pedestal, the images flow, the story unfolds...
Each AXIS OF HOPE wheel is sculpted of stoneware clay that has been "thrown" on a spinning potter's wheel in several parts. Once assembled, the vessel's surface is carved with images. Next it is burnished with iron oxides or glazes and kiln-fired to 2,300 degrees F. to make a long-lasting, durable wheel of heirloom quality. Finally, it is bolted to a metal turntable with quality bearings, allowing it to revolve with a gentle push of the hand.
Like traditional prayer wheels, AXIS OF HOPE vessels can be filled with your written prayers, dreams and hopes. |

BLUE WATER POTTERY Potter Jeremy Noet says: “My pots have always been about function. Because I intend my teapot to be used, it can’t dribble; the lids on my jars must fit properly; a mug has to snuggle nicely into the hand. After function comes appearance. I draw inspiration from tidal movements and the sea and even man made objects. My work references the subtle differences between these two environments: the man made and the natural. I use the contrast between the soft and luminous colors of nature and the at times virulently harsh colors of our cityscapes. The clay body itself showcases nature’s soft, growing, impermanent structures while simultaneously illustrating the harshness and longevity of man’s stone and metal constructions.
Nature’s changing and fluid ways are very apparent here in the northwest, and living with my wife Megan in Bellingham, Washington on our sailboat affords me inspiration everyday. I want people who use my pottery to have their every day lives enriched in the same way, whether it is by a favorite bowl or a handmade mug for coffee each morning. I have been a professional potter for ten years, but I consider myself a craftsman first, and an artist second. My goal is to make affordable art that people can use to enhance everyday living.”

BOVANO Bovano glass enamels have an appeal that is like no other material. Their appearance is unique for a number of reasons. First, the brilliance of the fused glass colors is achieved by enhancing the glass formulations with metal agents, Second, the high quality feel and texture of glass adds a very realistic and luxurious ambience to the surface of the sculptures. Finally, glass enamels are often transparent or translucent in nature. When enamels are fused to the metal surface, the color and texture of the solid copper can be seen through the glass surface. This iridescent feature adds life-like depth and dimension to the sculpture. Bovano enamel sculptures are fade and moisture-resistant leaving them with a beautiful, long-lasting finish. |

ORIGINAL FLEA SCULPTURES These whimsical little characters are hand-crafted from wire and metal. Whether you're looking for a unique gift or a good conversation piece, there's a flea for just about everyone, guaranteed to bring a smile, at the very least! As artist, Greg Quayle himself says, "Humor became a focus very early in my sculptures, a smile or chuckle from a customer was good, outright laughter was the best. I see comedy in almost every situation in life, and I choose to aim at this, not the negative. I will do my best to keep you smiling."
Greg Quayle created the OriginalFLEA in the fall of 1972. His son, Jeff Quayle began helping him when he was 6 years old, and rejoined his father in the FLEA endeavor as an adult in 2004. |

BROOKE POTTERY JAMES BROOKE has resided in the Puget Sound area of Washington State for the past 25 years. Since completing his M.F.A. in 1976, he has participated in numerous shows and exhibitions both in the U.S. and abroad. His current studio is located on the bluffs above Puget Sound. By layering slips, glazes and washes, he creates a certain depth of surface and a final richness that can only be imparted through high temperature reduction firing. Each piece is an individually crafted offering of the potter's art. All pieces are microwave/dishwasher safe and oven proof, but as with all quality hand-crafted pottery avoid extreme temperature changes. They are also all lead free.
James has begun using a wide variety of glaze color choices on his beautiful creations--something for everyone. Prices start at $20 on these remarkably affordable and functional pieces. Remember, each piece is a hand-crafted original, so what's pictured here may not be exactly the same as what's available in the gallery, but will give you a fine idea of possible choices. |

BARBARA LAVALLEE BARBARA LAVALLEE, who works mostly in watercolor, paints whimsical stylized characters dressed in vibrant colors. They may be Eskimo women mending a fish net, three women lounging in a hot tub, Russian Orthodox churchgoers or skiers floundering down the slopes. They all reflect her interest in people - how they live and what they do. "I prefer to portray the magnificence of man...his joy and humor, his tenacity and his ability to overcome.
A native of Davenport, Iowa, she grew up in Wisconsin and received her art degree from Illinois Wesleyan University.
She taught art for several years in Native American schools, quitting teaching in 1975 to paint full time. She currently resides in Girdwood just outside of Anchorage, Alaska.
Lavallee can't imagine her life without painting. "I want people to have fun. If people look and smile, then I feel the art is a success."

GEORGE ESTRELLA Originally from the Philippines Islands, George Immigrated to the United States in the mid-60's, eventually moving to Alaska.
"The inspiration for my work is directly related to the environment in which I live and my ability to express it.
Always intrigued by the relationship between man and nature, I found in the northern landscape and alaskan cultures a web of life at once mysterious and outrageous, primitive and modern and wholly compelling.
Since 1987, I have divided my time between Alaska and the Northwest where the influences of urban architecture and urban life are emerging in the new pieces." |

MINTER CREEK BASKETS Minter Creek Baskets are made by two delightful women from the south Sound region of Washington, Elaine Lefler and Shannon Krueger. This pairing of talent has turned out beautiful fabric coiled baskets for years. Baskets may have similar fabric occassionally or similar shapes, but becuase of the unlimited combinations they have available to them, Elaine and Shannon never turn out two exactly the same. They continue to improve their design with new elements used on their baskets: beading, shells, ceramic ornaments and wood.
These baskets are funtional as well as ornamental. They are great for small storage uses - knitting, magazines, CD's and videos - just to name a few. On the other hand they are so attractive they make wonderful 3-dimensional artwork for your walls.
We have added a few selections of their work on this page, but always remember there are so many more in the gallery and when you see one you like...best to purchase it then because you probably won't find it again! |

MARK DAHN MARK DAHN comes from a family of professional artists, all living and working in the Pacific Northwest. He continues a jewelry tradition that began four generations ago. His interest in jewelry making began in his teens when he studied at the Factory of Visual Arts in Seattle. For almost a decade he was a full time jewelry designer for several firms in the Seattle - Bellevue area, and in 1989 he began his own business, Eclipse Jewelry Design.
Mark demands the highest possible quality in design and workmanship. He is the sole researcher, designer and jeweler for each piece, bringing his unique style to every detail.
Each year Mark adds a new animal design to his Northwest series of 14k gold charms. They are the result of a careful design process that begins with extensive research on the animal, its habits and habitat. Detailed drawings are painstakingly sculpted in wax from which he makes a plaster mold. The gold is ultimately cast in this mold, and it is known as the "Lost Wax Method" as the wax model is melted away, or lost, when the mold is created. |

KURT McVAY Kurt McVay enjoys making beautiful things."I believe that artistic objects enhance our daily lives. These objects can reflect spiritual or aesthetic feelings and have a humanizing influence if the artists decisions are made thoughtfully. I am grateful to those who have taught this to me. My goals include giving something back to the arts and community through monetary and auction donations to many causes."
Glass fusing is the oldest form of glass making, predating Roman glass blowers by full 3,000 years. In fusing, the slow, intricate cutting, layering and careful melting of glass colors provides wide design possibilities that are unrealizable in glass blowing. In fusing, technique and concept must be precise because poor design cannot be hidden by flamboyant contrivances. |

JOHN FEHRINGER JOHN FEHRINGER has created one of the most compelling and successful series of paintings to come out of Alaska in the last decade. His calm, cool scenes of Alaska and the Northwest, primarily executed in gouache, represent his love for the land he has chosen for his home.
A self-taught artist with no "formal" training, John believes his success is largely due to the fact that he never learned the "rules" that most artists acquire through schooling.
Fehringer's work has been exhibited in numerous one man shows and his limited edition prints and posters are collected by art enthusiasts around the U.S., Europe and in Asia.
We are currently offering a selection of John Fehringer's prints at 30-50% off. |
